So I posted awhile back that I had received my flesh eating taxidermy beetles for getting down to the bare bones that I use to make much of my jewelry. You may recall the details....The corpse must first be skinned, then the meat is dried out to the consistency of beef jerky. When cleaning skulls the eyeballs must be pulled out which is actually REALLY difficult to do. Not just because of the smell, but also because they are muscled in the sockets extra tight. A metal hook is your best friend. Next, the brain matter must be pulled out through the eye sockets. All this needs doing so that the interior meat doesn't rot and wreak. It is too much matter for the beetles to get through fast enough.

Now that I have been caring for them for about a month, they have at least doubled their little colony and have become quite cozy in their 75 degree regulated aquarium. A thermostat is essential: if their living quarters get to be above 80 degrees, they start to grow wings. I really don't think flying, flesh eating beetles would make the best pets. They need a steady supply of meat and the occasional wet paper towel to drink from.

Here they are in all there glory munching on half of a fox leg. Not sure what the bones will look like, but they may inspire some new pieces. I'll let you know when they are full......

So my boy Kully is killing it!!!! He has been apprenticing at EFAB and I have come to know him not only as a fine craftsmen/fabricator, but also as an extremely sweet and thoughtful person (not to mention a damn fine looking lad). He is working around the clock on his latest build putting time in on every component with impressive results.
THe article in Iron Works features the bike he had at the AMD's in Sturgis. Very tasteful and clean and it was his first full build! Stay tuned for his next bike. It will blow you away.

Two nights ago in Torrance, CA amongst the wrecked Ferrari from Dr. Dre's 'I need a Doctor' video, a photo shoot was happening. It was for an upcoming issue of Bound by Ink. SO as always, Sturgis was off the chain. SOrry I haven't posted until now, but I was waiting to get these pics off from my buddies camera. Got to spend quality time with some of my favorite people and shoot the shit with some new found comrades. Just when you think there isn't anybody new worth knowing....

As a Poison fan I was stoked to meet Rikki Rockett (who changed his name in the 80's because, in his words, 'I was committed.' I like that certainty in a person. I didn't realize it was him till he handed me his card to pay for the cuff..... I told him that I had Open Up and Say Ahh on vinyl back in the day. Wow, was I dating myself. This was before DJing became mainstream and you could still buy records in the chain music stores.

Wish I still had it!

In fact, wish I still had my whole vinyl collection that an old friend/roommate made off with upon moving out. Fuck Face.

I have many more images & stories to report on from this most excellent week, but you can't have them all right now. You're gonna have to stay tuned in......

So I have looked at this drawing for as far back as I can remember in the various houses that I lived in growing up in upstate NY. I was very drawn to it, but I also found it haunting. Walking up the dark staircase to bed at night, it was peering out at me. It's eyes seemed to move when I passed it. I don't remember all the locations it hung because my damn parents moved so much, but I remember it at the homestead hanging on the wall leading up the staircase.

Later I would find out that the artist of this charcoal was my great grandmother, Heyltje. When my parents moved south, I made sure it was in my possession. That donkey still stares at me as I work in my shop. I'm not as afraid of it as I used to be, but sometimes I still feel it's damn eyes following me.....

Been juicing the hell out of this stuff with this crazy counter mounted contraption that looks like a meat grinder.
15 pounds of wheat grass is the equivalent of 350 pounds of carrot, lettuce, celery, etc. in the detoxing department.
One ounce has the same nutritional value as 2.5 pounds of green garden vegetables.
THe chlorophyll in it neutralizes toxins in the body, helps purify the liver (and GOd knows I need that), improves blood sugar problems, prevents tooth decay, stops the hair from graying, helps get rid of acne, and improves digestion just to list a few of its attributes.

The television series The Dukes of Hazzard follows Bo and Luke Duke, two cousins living in a rural part of the fictional Hazzard County, Georgia, with their cousin Daisy and wise old Uncle Jesse, racing around in their customized 1969 Dodge Charger, The General Lee, evading corrupt county commissioner Jefferson Davis "Boss" Hogg and his inept county sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane. Bo and Luke had previously been sentenced to probation for illegal transportation of moonshine; their uncle Jesse made a plea bargain to stop brewing moonshine in exchange. As a result, Bo and Luke are not allowed to carry firearms (instead, they often use compound bows, sometimes tipped with dynamite) or to leave Hazzard County, although the exact details of their probation terms vary from episode to episode: sometimes it is implied that they would be jailed for merely crossing the county line; on other occasions, it is shown that they may leave Hazzard as long as they are back within a certain time limit; several other technicalities of their probation also came into play at various times.

My brother and I used to watch this show fairly religiously. One day my Mom walked in while my brother was watching the show with tears running down his face. 'What's wrong, Tony?' she asked. 'Bo and Luke think Uncle Jesse is dead, but he's really not.' I still want a Charger to this day.

As you may (or may not) recall this pic in a previous post, this was an owl found along side the road somewhere in South Dakota. Lock is pictured cutting the talons off. Those suckers were carried in Colleen's purse all week, forgotten to be handed over to me, and then shipped from Milwaukee to Connecticut. Those suckers have done some traveling, not to mention where they have been attached to their owner.

Fast forward almost a year later. Said talon is flanked by 2 badger claws (these I found at some crazy taxiderm place along side the road also in S.D.) I gave it to a friend for his birthday thinking it would either end up on his rat bike or around his neck....We shall see. Feel free to contact me if you wanna send any carcs or pieces thereof...

So I first met Michael Joo via the motorcycle world a couple of years ago. Keino introduced me to him as he was doing some work on one of his bikes. I was floored when we entered his studio in Brooklyn. This massive space was filled with some of the most amazing artwork I had seen in a long, long time. Not only that, but I found MJ to be very sweet and very humble about his work.

One of his subjects is the formation of crystals. As I was looking at some of this work, he mentioned a mine in upstate NY associated with these quartz crystals- Herkimer. I mentioned I knew of it as I grew up near Ithaca. Turns out, so did he! Later in the visit I noticed a Fred Tomaselli book on his desk and mentioned that I loved his work and that he had spoken at Bard when I attended. Come to find out he has taught at Bard.

The lst opening of his that I made it to in the city was breath-taking. I was absorbing everything when I noticed a fellow Bard alum from my grad year. I talked to him a bit to find out that he & MJ went to Columbia together. Fucking small, small world.

Okay, so there's the background of our meeting. Michael has also been a huge proponent and buyer of my work. He rocks it all over the globe! It makes me feel especially great to have a such a badass artist wearing my shit!

We'd been talking about hooking up again for ages, but just hadn't found the time until last night. He came into town lugging a keg of Sixpoint Brooklyn Red. This was for the three of us to drink, mind you. Having sat for 5 hours getting a chest piece, this seemed like a good idea. So after swilling copious amounts of the stuff, we headed out to dinner in New Haven. I knew 116 Crown had great drinks and figured they probably had some decent food. I decided we needed some 'Angel's Milk'. This consisted of two double vodka martinis with 2 sides of pineapple juice and a piece of toast, apparently WC Fields breakfast of choice. I was disappointed they were out of the bone marrow appetizer, but that was probably for the best. We had some little niblets and another round of those two rounded off martini glasses and we were on our way. We went home and proceeded to get shit hammered on the kegger and had an incredible time hanging out talking about the art world, life, and guns.

Today I am a hurtin girl. Starting to feel 'alright' now at 9pm. Barfed around 2, took a nap, and have had some saltines and ginger ale.

Anyhoo, it was all worth it. So glad MJ came to town and look forward to getting back to his Brooklyn studio to rock out soon.

The zebra in this one is epoxy, urethane, etc, but he has also done a life size one in solid bronze.

I have to admit I was more than a bit apprehensive about getting a tattoo at Willie's during Bike Week. My lot ladies wanted to all get them, so I stepped up. I love going to Willie's for the Bike Show, definitely, consistently a highlight of the week. BUT, to get a tattoo at the tiny shop at a time when you can barely move in the parking lot because of all the beer swilling fools and the bar to bar bikes, never mind the shop. I could totally see some drunken fat ass hitting the artist's needle hand and me having a stripe across my foot. Or better yet, a needle buried in bone. So, the bravest of the girls actually got theirs done the day of the show and made me an appointment for the next day with Scott Alvarez. I saw how theirs turned out....very detailed and skillful, so I was much more down. When I met with Scott the next day, I realized this cat knew what was up. I wanted to get somethin' southern and was also about to launch a lure inspired jewelry line, so I decided on a crawdad. When I said I wanted it blue, Scott didn't believe that they actually existed in nature. As he was looking up images on line, he was like, "That's a Yankee crawfish!" Well, I guess mostly southern. But anyway, Scott made a gorgeous facile drawing and I was confident. The more I talked to him, the more comfortable I felt. This kid has such a wealth of musical knowledge, specifically of my era (god I sound old!!) complete with the little known bands before the little known bands. He asked what I wanted to hear (awesome). My experience has been that artists usually play what they want to hear as they are the ones doing the work and you are on their turf. Not that I don't think most ink slingers wouldn't change it if you asked them to, but it was nice to be thought of first....

This is a 'truck'.

I generally bitch about all new cars looking alike because there are no hard edges, that the 'boxiness' of earlier automobiles is lost. Everything is sort of equally rounded over. Boring. This was before I had seen Luigi Colani's organic creations. He makes curvilinear lines gorgeous in everything he designs...from sunglasses to houses. One of his most famous creations is the orb that is a kitchen (above).
Born in 1928 in Berlin, he has designed prolifically over time and has garnered tons of design awards....

The earth is round, all the heavenly bodies are round; they all move on round or elliptical orbits. This same image of circular globe-shaped mini worlds orbiting around each other follows us right down to the microcosmos. We are even aroused by round forms in species propagation related eroticism. Her name is Small Block, but she is better known as weasel, turkey monkey, 1/2 turtle 1/2 cornish hen, Turkus Malerkis, turk, malerkski, haunchy, chicken wings, freakazoid, speed fetus, poopy loopy, fatty magillacutty, poopis, talons (i know they need cutting), stinkus malinkus, sniffer iffer, rubber dog, the list goes on. She is 100% chihuahua, but you wouldn't think so....she is 12 pounds, a 'deer head' chihuahua not one of those tea cup 1 pounders. If you are considering getting a dog, remember it is like having a child. She is three and is still high maintenance. I do threaten to pluck her feathers and put her in the oven or to dock her tail and ears. She doesn't believe that I have the balls......

Here is one of the hardest trucks to find 1961 W200 CALIFORNIA RUST FREE rust free rust freeTRUCK only 258 v8 made and another 200 or so ? 6 cylinders. This truck was special ordered by a old man in a LITTLE GOLD MINNING TOWN Ransburg, CA on the 395 with a v8 radio (lights up no sound) and a cigarette lighter. It was used for minning then sat for years. The 2nd owner was always looking for a 1961 and purchased the truck in 1987 and spent 1000's of hours and over 3 years restoring the entire truck. The truck had about 30,000 origanal miles on it when he purchased. I have 100's++++ of receipts. He had everything on the truck freshened up EVERYTHING. ALL STOCK BUT FRESH. He spent about $4000 on the original 318, rebuilt 4 speed transmission, rebuilt front and rear ends, added hedders, new drive shafts,I have the stock 2bbl intake (he spent many hours looking for a 4bbl intake (on it now) and a N.O.S 1961 4bbl carb. This truck has not one rust spot underneath ZERO never ever. I will add the pictures of the truck before and after photos in 1987 to1990. After restoration he enjoyed the truck with his family on trips and misc. After about 10 years he put about 70,000 miles on it and the brake master cylinder went out. I have always had a place in my heart for power wagons! I spent many a dark summer night helping my cousins load theirs up with vineyard posts only to be dumped dump truck style in a heap next to the pond for another epic "Bond" fire. We would do multiple trips and try to make each one larger than the last. Someone would almost always try to jump it, which seems ludicrous when I think of it now. Many a can of cheap beer, someones car radio playing with the doors open, dirt bikes, some reefer. One memorable night when all the Bonds gathered in one place coming from coast to coast to convene in that little oasis of Hector, my cousin Jen had a sweet, sweet sesh of impromptu rhyming backed by a beat boxer. I don't remember all of it, but I do remember it was in remembrance of my grandmother Heyltje, the reason for the gathering being her funeral. Living to be 102 (?), Jen spit Heyltje's history with many a line ending in '9 children', one of her many accomplishments in life. Always guaranteed to be a good time and usually a major headache the next day, the power wagon still remains central to the fun we had. The truck would usually find its way thrashing through the woods tearing up everything in its path at some point. Eric, does the super wagon still live? Please say it is so.

AHHH JUICE IT!

A 1967 Country Squire Wagon was sectioned and narrowed to fit to a ’68 Mustang front end. There is no big pillar and despite being a wagon, it just looks natural, familiar. It has a mild 302 engine under the hood backed by a C4 transmission and it was just completed less than a year ago. Ford really missed the boat by not making a Mustang wagon itself!

I met Claire Rosen at Millbrook boarding school in NY at the opening of a show of my work, 'Macabre Leather'. She had been granted a residency there for her photography. The more I talked to her, the more I learned of what we had in common. The science building there had been one of my favorite to visit....Tons of preserved animals from individual bones to full taxidermied specimens. A few weeks before, I had learned that the whole collection had been put in storage because some parents or trustees had complained about it. I mean, what better way to learn about the physiology of an animal then to have the real thing sitting in front of you?? Not to mention it was just plain bad ass. A creepy basement full of large stuffed creatures....even a full bear skeleton that had been rotted down on site.
So this is where Claire comes into the picture. Turns out her proposal was to go through said collection to photograph and catalog it. This was not just an average photographer making a record. Her love for the subject matter deified each and every bone. Not to mention that she was already very successful in her field. She has a serious portfolio behind her, including fashion photography for Neiman Marcus, multiple awards for her commercial work and many accolades for her fine art.

This image of Ron FLetcher is one of my faves. On a reformer with a dress shirt and aviators....How could you NOT want to know what this guy is all about???

At the age of 19, Ron Fletcher left his hometown of Dogtown on the Arkansas-Missouri border for NYC. He says he doesn't know if it was 'determination or stupidity' at the time, but he went directly to Martha Graham's Dance Company and asked to study under her. She worked with him for an hour and said 'I can make a dancer out of you'. He worked with her company for 12 years as well as the Ice Capades. At some point he got a part in a worthy show with Mary Martin. He asked to be listed in the program as being a part of the Martha Graham Company and that pissed her off...She told him that 'you're just going off whoring.' At some point he injured his knee and upon suggestion by another dancer, he went to J. Pilates studio. He said that he thought he might be in the wrong place when he arrived...the reformer with its big clubfeet looked like a torture device and the tower looked like a guillotine. At some point during his studies there, he was fired from the Ice Capades for being drunk and missing opening night. With Clara (Joseph's wife) help he became sober and worked in their studio. As a student who worked directly under Joseph Pilates, Ron Fletcher eventually developed his own off shoot of Pilates, called towel work. It became popular among the Hollywood elite in the 1970's. CLients included Marlene Dietrich and Barbara Streisand. Some of his teaching includes '12 step' exercise regimens akin to the idea of the 12 steps in AA. Ron is now in his 90's and is still teaching workshops. He is an OG.
I have done some towel work and it is challenging in a different way than classical pilates. It definitely develops a strong back and if you can remember all the cues, a strong everything else! If you are interested, there aren't a ton of certified instructors...As I said, my instructor is the only one that is certified in CT. I'm sure you could find classes in NYC if you were to look.

Been slacking on posts as I have been mad busy. Trained all day Saturday and Sunday for my Pilates certification. Still have 30 hours of teaching to do before I am the real deal. My instructor is so qualified it is unbelievable. She has taught in so many fitness fields and has learned from the best! Her name is Melanie Johnson and I am lucky enough to have discovered her in New Haven.
Melanie is a third generation classically-trained Pilates teacher (training lineage by generation: Joseph and Clara Pilates > Kathy Grant and Romana Kryzanowska > Peter Roel, Phoebe Higgins, Susan Moran-Perich > Melanie Johnson). Her certifications include the PhysicalMind Institute, Power Pilates and The Pilates Method Alliance, all which demand complete training on all of the Pilates apparatus from beginner to super advanced levels, including over 600 apprenticeship hours. She has also completed advanced training with PEAK Pilates, BASI, Polestar, STOTT and Balanced Body University.

Melanie is a Level I certified Gyrotonic and Level I certified Gyrokinesis instructor, having completed her teacher trainings in New York and her final certification in Miami under the direction of Juliu Horvath. She is also the only instructor in CT who is certified to teach Fletcher towel classes. More on Ron Fletcher in future posts.....

In addition, Melanie has studied dance and yoga for over 30 years. She has completed trainings in The Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais and The Franklin Method. Combining 25 years as an ACE and AFAA certified personal trainer and fitness instructor, Reiki I and II, and NIA instructor, Melanie teaches with exceptional skill, insight, creativity and compassion.

One misconception about Pilates is that people think it is a chic exercise regimen. Joseph Pilates, however, originally was a boxer and taught it to men only. He was ripped in a 1940's kind of way, pre-steroid and HGH use. Pilates first came to the US in 1925.

Pilates was originally a gymnast, diver, and bodybuilder, but when he moved to England in 1912, he earned a living as a professional boxer, circus-performer, and self-defense trainer at police schools and Scotland Yard. Nevertheless, the British authorities interned him during World War I along with other German citizens in a concentration camp on the Isle of Man. During this involuntary break, he began to intensively develop his concept of an integrated, comprehensive system of physical exercise, which he himself called "Contrology." He studied yoga and the movements of animals and trained his fellow inmates in fitness and exercises. It is told that these inmates survived the great pandemic of 1918 due to their good physical shape.

So now that I have given props to Bryan Reynolds...I must give credit where credit is due. This is my tattoo guy, Tim Harris who works out of Hope Gallery in New HAven. He is best known for his flesh tone pin-ups, but also does many other styles with great skill and vision. Top is my back piece that he did over a year ago. I love the center piece, too! A sloth and a chihuahua. Why didn't I think of that? Lastly is the style he is known for. He does sick work and is unassuming. I also like that he has very few tattoos. None that are even visible in everyday gear. There is something to be said for that in today's world of tattoo stars all over the place....Will be getting work done by him in March...Stay tuned....

This dude rocks my world...Didn't get some of his best work on here, but you can check out the link for more. The top piece is one of my faves. The colors he uses are so bright and unexpected. Everyone says that it doesn't really matter what type of ink is used, it is the contrast with the skin of the individual (ie pale skin makes colors brighter). I can't believe this in light of the fact that all his pieces are vibrant no matter who they are on. Does anyone have any info to enlighten me on the subject??? So, I will definitely get some work done one of these days. It doesn't seem like he has done much work lately, but if anyone hears of him at a convention, let me know. I don't know that I will be in Atlanta anytime soon. I think he still works out of Memorial Tattoo in Cabbagetown, ATL, GA.

So, I love everything from the sleazy faux wood grain 70s Pontiac Safari (released the year I was born) and the dirty Le Mans wagon to the more desirable pink 59 Rambler. I've seen the 60 Safari in person...What a fucking boat!!! You could fit 15 kids and 5 labs in that thing! If I had one of the sleazy 70s mobiles, I would definitely have the wood grain repainted in the same tones of grain, but in flake.... If I see anyone do this before I get mine I will slit your throat.... And if anyone sees that Soviet Limo for sale, give me a shout....

Sooo, for the second installment. All of these images are taken from Wicked Weasel www.wickedweasel.com. Now there are many of these sites. I don't know who gets the cred for making the first micro suits, but I applaud them. So, I know of the negative connotation of the 'hipster', but when it comes to WW, you will most def enjoy them.... low slung side strings and tiny central triangle. THey also have what they call 'workwear'. Far from Carharts, these are undies of the same caliber we have been seeing, but the only difference is that they are in cotton. Lastly, my fave is the term 'knickers'. It must be an Australian thing. You probably picture mid thigh bloomers as I did, but let me tell you, that is not what these folks have in mind.....CHeck them out:

My first contact with tiny suits began when I saw the video 'Beautiful' with Snoop and Pharrell. If you haven't seen it check out the link. When that chic launches herself onto that surf board...OMG. Brazilians have genetically superior heinys. They were clad in Rosa Cha (a Brazilian designer) suits that I craved. At about the same time (probably 7 years ago), my friend had come back from Brazil and gave me an itty bitty bikini that until that time in the US was very hard to come by. The nineties trend of hiking the sides of the rather large bottoms (comparatively speaking) was still prominent, as was medium bottoms that just weren't very flattering and not skanky enough for my taste. After many google searches, I discovered the site Microkitten (www.microkitten.com). I was hooked! The options of micro (2" at widest point and string back thong), mini (a tad larger with same back), and brazilian mini (with a triangle thong instead of just strings) were what I was after. I purchased a black brazilian mini and was on my way to an obsession. Check out one of my fave models Flavia on microkitten...Mmmmm. Stay tuned for future related posts...Wagons will have to wait. I have a problem....I have a wagon addiction. I do not judge, I love them all. I just discovered this 2008 winner of the Ridler award. It was fabricated at the Divers Street Rods Shop (www.diversstreetrods.com) near Seattle. Also check out the Speed Hunters website for sick pics of the wagon in bare metal with custom fabbed panels Speed Hunters. This is a customized wagon with a Ferrari engine/transaxle which has been lifted straight out of a Ferrari 360 Modena. Fucking crazy mofos! I would love to take her for a ride!!! I said I don't judge, But I would prefer an older wagon....I still have a wide range which I would choose from (1950's to the late 70's). Stay tuned for more to come....I think it may go on for awhile.

So am coming down from all the festivities in the last couple weeks....phew. Glad they are over as my body couldn't take another day! Had sooo much fun with the fam & all of my incredible friends. Feel so fortunate.

Also winding down from all my X-mas orders. Thanks to everyone who has supported my craft. Couldn't do it without y'all! I am stoked to get going on new personal projects. I have been storing all kinds of rad shit to incorporate in my pieces. Also have been hooked up with so much cool shit. Special thanks to Leo, Joey, Gretchen, Tone Loc, and my Daddy-O!!! Also a big thanks to my Papa for my sick Xmas presents....homemade venison jerky (which is all gone, Dad you were a little stingy with it), homemade saki, dried apples, and canned apricots in honey. The best things are those have been made with lots of love.

Soooo, let the new creative energy begin tomorrow. Today is a day of recovery. My mind and body could use it. Happy New Year everyone!!!!

As with most Pisces, I am obsessed with shoes. Every sign has a body part associated with it and mine is feet. Top two images are Alexander McQueen (RIP), then Chie Mahara (Japanese woman born in Brazil who now resides in Spain). I bought a pair of her shoes for my wife that I adore. I wise man once told me that the things you love most, you should give away.....She does let me wear them on occasion, tho.
The bottom shoes are made by Jo Ghost who makes the sickest shoes for dudes. His shoes for chics don't entirely do it for me because the mens tend to be cooler, over the top.
Some day I will be a cobbler....
